Comments
Comment: See Photo.
Comment: Thelma Henderson Schoolfield's notes list the mother of Eliza Camilla Meachem as having been a MOORE, but my own research points to the BREWER family on the maternal line. [LH]7
Comments Notes for Jonathan "John" (Spouse 1)
Comment: See Photo.
Comment: There are photos of all surviving Lindley-Meachem children from this marriage.7
Comment: Although Cammie Meachem Lindley is supposed to have died in 1861, daughter Eliza's hand-written notes clearly state that Jonathan bid his wife and children farewell before he died (17 Nov 1866).
Misc. Notes
Note: Jonathan and brother Owen married sisters Eliza Camilla and Temperance Meachem (respectively).3
Note: Jonathan and Eliza Camilla had at least one infant who died. No formal written records have been found regarding this child, an oblique mention in notes (by Eliza Harriett Lindley Henderson) that of the Lindley's ten children, nine survived. Eight of the children have been identified and are listed in this group record.7
Overview
Jonathan must have been cut from different cloth than more materialist and "dandy" brother, William (see William "Billy" Lindley). John and his brother, Owen, married sisters Eliza Camilla and Temperance Meachem (respectively). By the hand-written account of daughter Eliza Harriett Lindley Henderson, John (Jonathan) and Eliza Meachem Lindley were Methodists who moved with their children to Howard County, Indiana, in 1849. They had ten children, nine of whom survived, and all of whom, with the exception of Eliza, established their homes and families in Indiana. John and Eliza remained in Howard County until their deaths and are there buried. According to daughter Eliza H. Henderson, both of the Lindleys were devout Christians, selfless and generous parents and neighbors, and all things exemplary.
