| Birth Memo |
On the application for marriage license applied for in 1874 by James Burgess, Matilda's father-in-law, her age is give as "22". This would place her d.o.b. in 1852, not 1857 (as is given in some researchers work). If she was born in 1857 she would have been 17 at the time of her marriage, not 22. Husband William was "20", which looks to be correct. I also have personal research notes that say she was born July 1, 1852. Edgar Burgess gives her d.o.b. as an etirely different date: Apr 05, 1855. Yet another source, the 1870, census, says she is at home 24 yrs old. (NOTE: This would place her d.o.b. as 1846). Thelma H. Schoolfield's notes say 1857. |
