Lizzie Black Low was best friends with Esther Burgess Henderson.
Personal Memoirs
My mother (Lizzie V. Black Lowe) was more friendly and was always smiling. She was a kind and caring person. Everyone called her "Granny Lowe". She was a midwife, which took her away from home many hours. I remember being upset coming home from school and she wasn't there.54
Personal Memoirs Notes for Robert Cyrus (Spouse 1)
My father, Robert Cyrus Lowe was a farmer. I remember my Father had a real hard time deciding to raise tobacco. It was almost a last resort during the Depression.
My father was a rather quiet and private man. Never saw him smile much.
My dad would turn over in his grave if he knew they'd built a swimming hole on his land. (Tom Low, Cyrus's son, sold a large part of the family land to the man who built Lake Juno.)
I never heard my father say a curse word. Mother's brother came to live with us, though, and he was a coarse man. Every other word out of his mouth was a curse word. He offended my father. Dad finally told him he had to leave. He [Uncle Schyler?] helped mother out during the day, chopping wood, and carrying and helping around the house, but Dad wouldn't put up with him, he made him go. |
