Alert: Source 52 says Pierre Remy was born in 1586. Source 50 says "about 1600". Jacques Remy, alleged father of Pierre, was killed around 1585/1586 according to most of the information I have found. If the date 1586 is correct, it would mean that Pierre Remy was born either the year his father died, or shortly after his father died. If the second date is correct, then he cannot have been the son of Jacques Remy, or Jacques Remy did not die in 1585/86.
Supposedly Pierre, the "father", was killed for his "Huguenot beliefs" (as was his son, Matthias). Source 52 says of Jacques Remy's family: "The family [The family members which were left after the death of Pierre and Matthias? -[LKH]] became Huguenots and were killed around 1600 in France." Pierre, if he made it through childhood (see comments for father, Jacques Remy), would have died at about the age of 14. The dates are critical here. As they are, they leave little room for a 14-year-old Pierre to marry and reproduce. A slight shift in either birth or death date, however, would make a huge difference in feasibility of his having fathered Jacques/Jacob of Westmoreland County, VA. |
