Person Sheet

Name Ann241
Spouses
1 Captain George ATHY186
Birth Date 1642
Birth Place Galway, Ireland
Birth Memo This can't be right if he immigrated to Maryland in 1642, as noted by Source 84 who says that George Athey arrived as a bondservant to Thomas Dent.
Death Date 7 Mar 1709
Death Place Prince Georges County, MD
Death Memo May have died 1710.
Immigration Date 1642186
Immigration Place Maryland
Immigration Memo Arrived as a bondservant to Thomas Dent. This date presents a problem as he was supposed to have been born in 1642 in Galway, Ireland. [LKH]
Residence Place Charles County, MD
Residence Memo (Later Prince Georges County, MD)
Occupation Planter
Religion Possiblyy Episcopalian (based on fact that he donated land to the Episcopal church)
Nationality Irish
Father Francis DE ATHY (1615-)
Mother IRE-MARTIN
Children John (-1729)
Comments Notes for Ann
Source 88 lists Capt. George Athy's wife as "Ann". I have entered her as spouse #2, although she could have been the same woman listed as "Sarah Marsh" of Source 84's records.6
Comments Notes for George (Spouse 1)
The "facts" about Captain George just aren't adding up for me. There are huge discrepancies in dates. See Misc. Notes for details. Can anyone help me straighten this family line out? [LKH]
Misc. Notes
Arrived in Maryland in 1642 as a bond servant to Thomas Dent. Served in the colonial militia as a "Captain of Foot" about 1786*. He was a planter with extensive land in Charles County, MD (later Prince Georges County) and gave land for an Episcopal Church near Broad Creek.186

*Comment: There is something not quite right about the facts I am gathering from my various sources. If Captain George Athy was born in Galway Ireland in 1642, then he could not have arrived as a bondsman to Thomas Dent in Maryland that same year, nor could he have served in the colonial militia in 1786 (America was no longer colonial by then) if he died over seventy years earlier in 1709/10. Some dates are either grossly wrong or mixed up with his son, George Athy Jr. [LKH]
