1804 Argulus Hercules Henderson Will, Chatham Co., NC
In the name of God
amen I Argulus] Henderson of
Chatham County & State of North Carolina Being of Sound &
Perfect mind & memory (Blessed be God) do this Sixth day of
September in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred &
Four Make & Publish my last will and Testament in manner Following:
- That is to say, first I [give] and Bequeath
Frances Clark one negro Girl Hannah, &
if the said negro Girl Hannah lives to have a Child, it is to
be for Mary Henderson Daughter to the said
Frances Clark;
- And also I [give] to my son Hezekiah
Henderson one negro, Dick
- Also I [give] to my son Abner
Henderson the Manor plantation where I now live on,
the Bounds of the land Beginning at the mouth of the School
House Spring Branch, Running up the said Branch then down the
said Branch to Brooks Creek [then] down the Said Creek to the
first Station, also one negro wench Luce and Child Humphrey
- Also I [give] unto Molly Henderson
all of my land west of John Fikes' Spring Branch During her
life or widowhood, then to Her Heirs
- Also I [give] unto my son Lewis
Henderson the Land where He now lives on, all of [my]
land on the South side of Brooks Creek, also one negro fellow
George
- I also [give] unto my my son
Isaac Henderson one negro wench, Beck & Child Farb
[Turn Over]
- & also I [give] unto my Son Ezekiel
Henderson one negro Boy Called Mike
- I also [give] unto my Granddaughter
Rachel Henderson one negro girl Edie &
one Bed and furniture.
- & also I [give] unto Hezekiah
Henderson one negro Girl more By the name of Sealy
- I also [give] unto Frances
Clark one negro Boy named Jerry, to Her and Her heirs
forever
- I also lend unto Molly Handerson
one negro Boy Sam during Her life or widowhood, & then I
[give] the said negro Sam to Her heirs Equally to be divided
amongst her Children
- I also [give] unto the Rest of James
Henderson's Children Except Rachel
twenty Shillings Equally to be divided among them & also
all of the Rest of my property to [be] Sold & Equally Divided
amongst my Heirs, Except my Still & Black Smith tools to
be kept on the Plantation [for] the use of all my Heirs and
plantation, & Except one Bed & part of my Estate to
Isaac Henderson Daughter Salley
- and I Hereby make & ordain my worthy
friend John Henderson my Son & George
Dismukes & John Hackney Senior Executors of this my
last will and Testament in witness whereof I the said
Argulus Henderson Have to this my last will &
testament set my hand and Seal the day and year above written
- I [give] allso unto Eizabeth
Dickson twenty dollars out of the money [which] my
perishable estate Sells for
Signed, Sealed, published and Declared
by the Said Argulus Henderson, the Testator,
as his last will & Testament in the Presence of us who were
Present at the time of Signing [and] sealing Thereof.
